Chronic brain changes caused by severe systemic inflammatory episode

چکیده
Background Sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAS) is a neurological complication of severe systemic inflammatory episode that compromises brain function. This impairment can lead to cognitive dysfunction appears precede neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease. However, the events by which inflammation causes significant damage are not yet fully established. With in mind, this study sought investigate persistent changes after episode. Method Male Wistar rats (90 days old) were divided into two experimental groups: sham (n = 33) and sepsis 37). For induction inflammation, animals underwent cecal ligation perforation (CLP). Animals followed for 30, 60 120 days. In all time-points, we performed object recognition task evaluate declarative memory Western Blotting assess astrocyte-related proteins (GFAP, GLT-1 Mao-B). At 30 days, evaluated ΒBB integrity [cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) albumin levels cellularity HCLP] glucose metabolism (FDG-PET imaging). Result Our results show CLP model compromised long-term at Furthermore, found higher CSF compared (p 0.023) post-sepsis 0.002). addition, also observed an increase induction. We whole hypometabolism (local maxima, t(12) -3.7) t(9) -8.45), suggesting metabolic abnormalities. Finally, proteins. hippocampal (p<0.001) cortical GFAP < 0.0001) immunocontents reduced sham. decreased 0,05) MAO-B 0.01) immunocontents. hippocampus (p<0.05). Conclusion BBB integrity, seems associated with impairment. astrocytes seem be reacting changing their protein expression, typical feature reactive astrocytes.

Socioeconomic Factors Associated With Mortality Rate Caused by Severe Stroke
Background: Stroke is one of the most important causes of disability-adjusted life years lost. Low socioeconomic status is associated with increased stroke-related morbidity and mortality. Objective: This study aimed to investigate in-hospital mortality rate caused by severe cases of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke and its relationship with patients’ socioeconomic status. Materials and Method...
متن کاملDiabetes increases brain damage caused by severe hypoglycemia.
Insulin-induced severe hypoglycemia causes brain damage. The hypothesis to be tested was that diabetes portends to more extensive brain tissue damage following an episode of severe hypoglycemia. Nine-week-old male streptozotocin-diabetic (DIAB; n = 10) or vehicle-injected control (CONT; n = 7) Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to hyperinsulinemic (0.2 U.kg(-1).min(-1)) severe hypoglycemic (10-...

Pheochromocytoma is a tumor that produces a variety of biologically active substances in addition to catecholamines. We report here a patient with a pheochromocytoma, who presented with acute inflammatory symptoms and marked abnormalities in liver function and hematological tests. A 31-year-old man, who had experienced intermittent fever, chills and weight loss during the previous several month...

Noncommunicable chronic diseases such as inflammatory bowel diseases, cancer, diabetes, obesity, and pulmonary, cardiovascular, and neurodegenerative diseases are becoming the leading cause of death throughout the world. Unhealthy diet, smoking, lack of exercise, stress, radiation exposure, and environmental pollution are among the common causes of chronic diseases. Most of these risk factors a...
